Crow Planet, Lynda Haupt, Non fiction
Continuing the journey in the world of crows, Lynda Haupt goes over the mysterious language of the crow. The crow is surprisingly in the songbird family otherwise known as a "Passeriform". But the weirdest thing is they don't use their songs to attract a mate like other birds, or "dawn chorus".The truth is naturalist have only deciphered a few words and phrases. It is quoted in the book on p75-76 that "We know some basic words and phrases. It is as though we are traveling in a foreign country without speaking the language; we miss cultural nuances. Until we can speak crow, we will not fully know the crow." In the book Lynda explains that she got a crow call in her stocking last year, so excited she went to a park that many crows favored and tried an assembly call, and all of a sudden about 12 crows crowded together, I couldn't believe it. The book also goes in depth of how some birds walk and how some differ from crows. For instance, the book explains that crows can actually walk because their muscles have adapted while other birds such as songbirds can only hop when they are on the ground because they are not able to. All in all the world of the crow is different from our world.
Question #2 -The central idea of this book is obviously about a naturalist taking us to another world, the world of the crow, how they live the mysteries behind them and how smart they really are.
Question#9 fiction- A small part in the book that I was intrigued in was on p99 that stated "We forget the earthen capabilities of our bodies, where they can take us, and how far."I will always remember this because its so true on how we can forget how thankful we should be about the simplest thing.
I like the quote you inserted.
