Mrs.Welch ELA: Book Blog #3
Mark Watney is your typical every day man who is stranded on a rusting desert that is 249 million miles away from Earth, but now he has a greater chance of survival and getting home.
Mark Watney had to travel 22 sols (1 day with a extra 40 min) to receive a broken lander which is a basically a radio and he need this to get contact with the people in NASA. The only problem is that the lander was used in a failed Mars expedition, so no one is going to be listening to it. But Mark Watney does have a small chance of someone picking up the signal and his best bets are The Deep Space Network or SETI (Search For Extra Terrestrial Intelligence). So will Mark Watney get in contact with NASA or will he perish in the rusting desert before then, read and find out.
Question #7: This story has enlighten me, the reason why is because it show that people have this characteristic to help one another. Like in the story the people in NASA spend countless hours and millions of dollars just to help one man that is 249 million miles away.
Question #10: In the story Mark Watney need to cultivate Mars. The thing is he didn't have any fruit or vegetable seed and only had a limited amount of water and had no fertilized dirt. But Mark Watney eventually cultivates Mars and he can makes enough food for 500 sols. I will never ever, ever have a problem like this but this taught me no matter how big the problem is it can always be solved, you just try a little bit harder to solve it.
sounds like a very interesting story and i would like to read it
