The Running Game, by Wendelin Van Draanen-realalistic fiction

"The Running Dream" is a book that portrays strength and faith. Jessica, the main character, is on the track team for her school. She is a runner, more specifically. 400 meters... how far she ran to break her personal record of 55 seconds. Jessica is so proud of herself! While on the bus going home, a tow truck tumbled down the hill, smashing into the school bus. The truck driver, along with one other high school girl, were killed on sight. Most of the other students had cuts and bruises, but what happened to Jessica? Is she okay? Jessica personally thinks that she is going to die. The doctors amputated her right leg, from the knee-down, and she thinks that she will never be able to do anything ever again. The doctors, her mother, best friend, classmates, all say that she will be just fine. With all of the encouragement from her family, why doesn't she think that she will make it? Physical therapy is helping her legs get stronger but recovery is slow. Running is what she does. It's who she is. After this accident, Jessica is devastated. What will change that? I have yet to get to that part of the book.

QUESTION #8--When did this story take place.....
This story was written and taken place in the 21st century. This setting impacted the story because the first conflict that happens is a car crash! I know that there were cars in the 20th century but today, people are careless. They, sometimes, don't look where they are going and end up crashing. Cell phones play a huge role in today's car crashes too. Texting, talking. Everything that has to do with a cell phone while behind the wheel can cause serious damage.Anyway, if there weren't cars, then car accidents wouldn't happen. That is how I look at it. But please give me your own input on this topic.

QUESTION #9--Talk about specific passages.....
This story has already shown many different mini-events. I saw that Jessica's sister,Kaylee, loves her sister. Many siblings love their other siblings, but some don't show it as much as Kaylee does. Jessica was in the hospital. Kaylee has been dying to see her ever since the crash. I guess it was one of those "Have to see it to believe it" moments. Kaylee didn't believe her parents when they said that Jessica was alright. She also looks up to Jessica. She is her big sister.
