Mark Watney has just clawed his way back to the top by sciencing the heck out of the situation he was in, but things don't always go the way he wants them to go or how he puts it "...Mars and my stupidity keep trying to kill me."(The Martian, page 229). Mark Watney fixed the Hab and had gotten comms ups with NASA again. Also back on Earth the people of NASA are trying to come up with ways to bring Mark Watney back to Earth they have thought of two different ways to go about it the first one has a 30% chance of actually succeeding and the other one risks endangering the lives of multiple people. Either way Mark Watney will have to travel in his modified rover to be saved by one of those plans. Will Mark Watney survive the grueling desolate waste land until help arrives or will Mars and stupidity be the death of him read book blog #3 to find out.
Question #7:This story has shown me that with great determination you can overcome anything. For example Mark Watney has survived on Mars for 211 Sols (30 extra min of a day) and he could have given up at any time, but he just keeps going and he will not stop until he is off Mars.
Question #8:The author doesn't truly tell the reader when this story occurs but he hints at it just a little bit, for example Mark Watney talks about watching 70's TV shows and how bad they are. So the setting would most likely be in the near distance future.
Question 8 part 2:The story would drastically change if the setting of the story was changed, for example if the setting was change to Pluto Mark Watney would most likely die because Pluto is far from the sun, so it would be harder to farm and the rations that were sent to him from Earth would take way too long to reach him.
