Jeter Unflitered Non-Fiction, By: Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter is a person that achieved greatness by doing what he loves. He always has a passion for the game of baseball, and he is one of the best players on and off the field arguably of all-time. In his 20 years of playing the game he loves, he got butterflies every single opening day, even in his last season. At the start of each defensive inning, Jeter would be the first one in position 99% of the time. He had two nicknames given too him during the playoffs, Mr. October and Mr. November. You know why? Because he performed best under pressure in the playoffs and was one of the best players of the decade. He is a leader and an inspiration to kids, even adults, world-wide.

Question #1: Has this novel changed you?- This is a most definite yes because Derek Jeter has now become my idol. He taught me to always work hard and do my best no matter what the situation is. When I play the game of baseball, I go by a quote "Hard work beats talent if talent doesn't work hard." Reflecting on Jeter's baseball career I feel this quote portrays Jeter as a baseball player. He not only had talent, he worked hard too. He didn't take his talent for granted. These qualities makes him inspirational.

Question #2: What is the main theme?- The main theme of this book is to be who you want to be and persevere through the difficult times in life. Setting goals for yourself and working hard to achieve them is a proactive way to live your life. Jeter said in his book "I believe that it's important to remember the tough times, as it makes experiencing the good times better; it also makes you work harder for them." He is an example of successfully achieving his dream by working hard, staying positive, and learning from his mistakes.
